Rose Water

It’s 3:11 and I’ve burned my tongue
a cup of hot soup my vanity wrung
Like a warm cloth in winter washing a wound.
The girl in the garden’s gone,
I hope they find her soon.


Lauren Page is a pre-veterinary student at Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, VA, studying microbiology and immunology. When she’s not in class or working at a local veterinary clinic, you can find Lauren writing, hiking on the Appalachian Trail, or throwing pots in her pottery studio. Her poetry has appeared on The New Poet, The Bitchin’ Kitsch, The Voices Project, Coffee Shop Poems, and Brickplight. She was also chosen as a runner-up in the 2014 Steger Poetry Prize.
