Last Weekend at the Florida Literary Arts Coalition Conference, “Other Words”

Last weekend, (November 8-9) the FLARE staff had an outing with the Slash Pine Press Staff and engaged in a series of writing assignments that occurred throughout historical St. Augustine! We first walked over to an old Spanish bed and breakfast and wrote from the perspective of someone who once lived in the historical house; then over to the Huguenot Cemetary where the christians victims of the Spanish Fever plague lay cold in their graves where we were to write a letter from beyond the grave; we then made our way over to the Castillo de San Marcos where we sat on the coquina wall and looked toward the ocean and wrote of anything and everything inspiring as we sat above the sea; we wrote haikus beside the Bridge of Lions and participated in the Hemingway Challenge in the gardens of the old Alcazar Hotel.

It was a really great bonding experience between FLARE and Slash Pine Press and we can’t wait to participate with more staffs in the future!
